House of fun, madness and boys from Wham

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

It seems nostalgia is what it used to be, judging by the flow of first class tribute acts.

The nuttyness and the glamour of the eighties is coming to Ayr Gaiety on two separate nights.

First up is “Complete Madness” , presented by Sweeney Entertainments, as they celebrate the very best music of Madness.

This theatre extravaganza ( in Ayr on Thursday October 17) features the amazing talents of this fivepiece band, taking you on a musical journey through the story of one of Britain’s most memorable, visual and fun bands.

With crazy costumes, comedy and chirpy banter, Complete Madness invite you to their ‘ House of Fun’.

Promotor Jule Sweeney said: “This highly visual and energetic show is a riot from beginning to end and features all the favorites including Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond, It Must Be Love and Driving In My Car.”

Tickets are priced £ 18-£ 26 and that saxophone will burst to life at 7.30pm on the Gaiety stage.

Two nights later, Saturday October 19, ‘ The Best of Wham!’ takes over at the Gaiety.

This is a new show featuring the very best of George, Andrew, Pepsi and Shirlie.

The Best of Wham! show includes all the hits, a few B side favourites and a couple of early George Michael bonus songs.

Ben Evans performs as George Michael. Ben started his career at the age of eight performing in roles including Gavroche in Les Miserables, both the roles of Oliver and The Artful Dodger in Oliver.

His career has continued with appearances in a host of TV programmes including lead roles in: Casualty, Teachers, Waking The Dead and most notably, creating the role of ‘ Charlie Jenkins’ in BBC Wales hit comedy ‘ High Hopes’ which he starred in for six seasons.

Further West End performances included Mamma Mia! as well as the role of ‘ Sam Wise Gamgee’ in The Lord Of The Rings.

Julie Sweeney, of Sweeney Entertainments, added: “With sensational vocals, choreography, costumes and an awesome live band, The Best of Wham! is an authentic musical journey that truly recaptures the full Wham! experience.

“This non- stop 80s party will get audiences singingand dancing to all the greatest hits including ‘ Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’, ‘ Freedom’ and ‘ Im your Man’. We are thrilled to be presenting this amazing new show to venues across the UK – this is a non- stop Wham! party that is sure to leave audiences singing and dancing the whole way home. It’s a fun- loving, vibrant, mega- mix tribute to the pop sensation of the 80s and will be loved by ‘ Young Guns’ of all ages.
