Five to follow

-

I strongly advise you to look back at the 24 races that made up the year’s Festival and study them in depth as I’m quite sure there are several horses that either won or ran big races last week who will come out and win again in the next few weeks.

I’m going to give you five to follow and there are many more but the ones I have chosen really took my eye.

First up is the Michael Dods trained Arch Moon who was runner up to the highly rated Morisco in the opening novice race on Doonside Cup Day.

This was only this horse’s second race and he should be winning soon especially if being stepped up in distance from the mile he ran over last week.

The winner is likely to be rated around 100 now which for a two year- old is exceptional.

Whatever he does next Arch Moon will be a lovely three year- old next season.

The opening novice race on Friday over seven furlongs was a good heat and the one to take from this is John Quinn’s Melody King.

This 200,000 guineas buy had won his only previous start at Thirsk and would probably have won again but for being baulked a furlong out. He was only half a length away in third. Should be noted.

Woody Creek made the trip for Fozzy Stack’s yard in Ireland for the Listed Al Maktoum Cup Scottish Fillies’ Sprint Stakes and came away from the meeting as the unluckiest horse of the meeting.

Over the five and a half furlong trip she was slowly away only to pick up and then find her path blocked several times by tiring horses.

She flew home to finish fifth and must be backed next time out which could be in a Group 3 at the Curragh on Saturday.

Richard Fahey’s yard were a tad unlucky on Saturday not to have a few winners and Yoshimi could feel hard done by after being touched off by a short head in the mile nursery handicap.

He took a keen hold under Paul Hanagan and seemed to not quite go through with his run due to inexperience.

Another horse who will make a cracking three year- old.

Orlaith won a five furlong Listed race at Newbury before running in the William Hill Firth Of Clyde Stakes – Scotland’s only Group race on Saturday. She ran well enough for fourth but didn’t appreciate the step up to 6f.

She must be backed if returned to the minimum trip next time.
