New schools will benefit our pupils

-

A lot has been happening locally since my last column.

The new £ 25m Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr has opened its doors to pupils, benefitting many students who live in Carrick, Kyle and the Doon Valley with a state of the art education facility.

In Cumnock, work continues on the £ 68m Barony Education campus, which will incorporate early years, primary and secondary education and two full- size floodlit synthetic sports pitches.

I look forward to seeing the progress when I visit the site next month, and in Maybole, Scottish Government funding has been confirmed for a new Education campus to replace Carrick Academy and the town’s primary schools.

Over in Patna, 19 new socially rented homes, built by East Ayrshire Council, have been completed adding to the over 1000 new rented homes delivered under this Scottish Government since 2007 and up the road In Bellsbank work continues on the new £ 6m primary school, which includes an early childhood centre and community facilities which will benefit the whole village when it is completed early in the new year.

And of course, we have our third UK General Election in four years on the horizon.

Scotland is scunnered by Brexit but if Boris Johnson gets his way this will only be the beginning.

Trade talks with the EU haven’t even started and hard- line Tory demands mean they could collapse next year bringing a no deal Brexit back on to the table.

This is Scotland’s chance to escape the Brexit chaos by voting SNP and putting Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands.

My last surgeries of this calendar year will take place later this month in Patna, Muirkirk and Sorn.
