Man jailed for bus station rammy
A man downed a bottle of vodka and a week’s worth of medication before causing a rammy at Ayr Bus Station.
Keith Wright pestered passengers and was a general nuisance on September 27 this year.
But things turned ugly when an employee at the bus station intervened and Wright turned on him.
Wright, aged 38, of Laggan House, Prestwick Toll, Prestwick, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, October 29.
He admitted assaulting employee Allan Cooper and trying to head butt two police officers- PC’s David Murdoch and Stuart Grant- who were attempting to take him into custody. Wright admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, shouting, swearing and threatening violence.
Fiscal Depute Scott Toal said the offences unfolded at 3pm when the accused approcated the public in the bus station.
He added: “And the view was that he was pestering them, hugging them and talking to them. But they did not want to be spoken to. Staff approached him and he became aggressive and was shouting and swearing.”
Wright, the court was told, became “hostile” and threatened to “shoot them.”
Mr Toal said: “He punched Mr Cooper but he managed to get hold of the accused by the arm and he was held on the ground while police were called. They attended and he was still shouting and swearing but not making much sense.”
Wright was taken to Ayr police office where he continued to be “volatile.”
Dickson’s defence solicitor said: “He was struggling to cope as it was the anniversary of his father’s death. He was also struggling with a break- up with his partner.
“It’s no excuse, but he was in a bad place. He decided to go to Belfast to visit his father’s grave but he drank a bottle of vodka and took a week’s worth of his medication.
“He’s extremely remorseful for his behaviour. It’s unacceptable the way he conducted himself and he apologies to the court. He’s fully aware this is a serious matter; so serious that the court could send him straight to custody. But he’s anxious to avoid it. There’s clear issues that require to be addressed.”
Sheriff John Montgomery told Wright:“Your behaviour on this occasion was appalling. You have a previous record and I am of the view that no disposal other than custody is appropriate.”
Dickson was jailed for six months.
