Global firm benefit from working in community
Hyspec Engineering is an Ayrshire engineering company based in Stewarton and Moorfield near Kilmarnock with a global client base.
Hyspec Engineering has been satisfying the precision machining and engineering needs of clients for over four decades. It is a leading provider of sub- contract precision engineering services to Oil & Gas, Renewables , Automotive and Steel manufacturing sectors.
Hyspec started out more than 40 years ago under the name of Jigs and Fixtures, manufacturing jigs, fixtures and press tools for the automotive and electronic industries. As time has progressed the organization has diversified into the manufacture of precision machined components. In 2012 Hyspec was acquired by United Engineering Services a global company based in Oman.
HR manager Julie Johnston said: “We now have more than 110 employees and this number is rising as we continue to actively recruit. Our workforce comprises some of the most experienced personnel in the industry.
Operations Manager Andy Currans went on to explain: “Well established, effective quality management systems that are certificated to international standards ensure reliability across the value stream. Along with our valued employees and processes, we operate one of the best precision manufacturing facilities within the central belt of Scotland. By following a universal philosophy of excellence, Hyspec staff work together, delivering quality products to the precise requirements of each individual customer , ensuring total satisfaction with every order”.
Over the last 12 months Hyspec have invested over £ 500,000.00 in new machinery and will continue to do so, Andy explained. It’s important Hyspec keep their machines up to date to be able to compete in the competitive challenging marketplace.
Kevin Kennedy, Moorfield Coatings Manager went on to describe the reasons for the expansion and investment to bring industrial coatings in house “Even with the recent downturn in the Oil and Gas sector we at Hyspec recognised that to protect ourselves and our customers we needed to invest and develop in house coatings capability. This significant investment ensures quality and delivery is within our control and not reliant on external third parties”
Hyspec Engineering is committed to encouraging young workers and has a regular influx of fresh talent through its involvement with the modern apprenticeship scheme. Having added three new apprentices this year, the next intake is scheduled for early 2020.
In addition, the team regularly visits schools to encourage young people to consider a future in engineering and primary schools have also visited the Stewarton headquarters to learn more about the industry too.
With the community very much at its heart, Hyspec Engineering has just signed a two year sponsorship deal with Macmillan Cancer Support - they have vowed to raise £ 15,000 for the charity to help it carry out essential support to people coping with cancer in Ayrshire.
And staff are all on board with plans in the pipeline.
Julie went on: “We are delighted to sign a sponsorship deal with Macmillan Cancer Support, these people do incredible work and we will be holding events over the next two years to reach our £ 15,000 target.
