Tamfest hailed a success

-

Tamfest 2019 was an enormous success! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy all of the festivities throughout the weekend.

Tamfest has grown over the last five years to become THE place to celebrate Halloween with a Tam o’ Shanter twist.

We are so grateful to our amazing community for turning out to support the Ayr town centre and our fantastic festival.

Special thanks to the Ayr Festival Board for all their hard work throughout the year and to NSP Productions for making the festival a reality.

Thanks also to the SAC and especially Laura Kerr and Joan Elliot for their commitment and amazing talents for bringing everything together.

Thanks to all of our town centre venues for their ongoing support in hosting events and thanks to our fantastic fringe events for enhancing our Tam o’ Shanter festival with your own unique style.

All of this success was made possible by the support of our sponsors. Meredith McCrindle Chair, Tamfest 2019

Health and safety first It was extremely disappointing to read the inaccurate statement by your columnist, Mr Shields, in the Ayrshire Post on October 23.

The council has a robust approach to health and safety in our buildings, whether we own or lease them.

We have a strict regime of health and safety checks and, if we identify any actions that require to be taken, we address these as a matter of urgency.

A recent Health and Safety Audit and Fire Risk Assessment of Loudoun Hall in Ayr has highlighted a number of actions. We immediately met with the Trustees of Loudoun Hall and we agreed the actions that require to be addressed both by ourselves and the Trustees.

To facilitate this, it was necessary to suspend the booking of the Hall for any lets and to relocate these in Ayr Town Hall. Immediately after meeting with the Trustees, Officers advised the organisations who have lets in the Hall that these would require to be temporarily relocated.

The relationship between Officers and the Trustees is a very positive one and we are confident that the work being carried out will not only address the health and safety actions but improve the building aesthetically.

It is unfortunate that Mr Shields chooses to put a negative slant on a situation which is actually a positive one and one which will allow the building to be enjoyed by more people. Councillor Douglas Campbell, leader of South Ayrshire Council

Bring the flats down In response to Jackson Anderson’s letter in the Ayrshire Post dated October 23, I would like to point out that not everyone in the flats voted to remain.

The majority of us voted to have them pulled down. They are well past there sellby date and should be demolished.

They are dated and require a lot of work to bring them up to standard. It’s not that that they are a fire risk, cladding being a najor problem, the plumbing needs a major upgrading also.

The water tanks are a health hazard and have been since the flats were built.

They are substandard and to compare them with Dubai, one of the richest countries in the word, is beyond belief. Time to move on.

Get them demolished ASAP along with all the other derelict buildings in Ayr.

The whole town needs a major rethink.

Parking mad in town Taking up our routine ‘’ flu’’ jabs my husband and I drove to Cathcart Street at 9.30am on October 26.

As over200 patients were booked in parking was a real problem.

However, as I drove into Cathcart Street to drop him off I was dismayed to see two parking wardens photographing and taking numbers of cars.

How insensitive.

Most of the patients were elderly and many infirm.

Our jabs took only eight minutes and we were back out.

They must have known parking would be a problem and surely common sense should have been applied.

We are desperate to keep our town alive and encourage shopping etc.

This shocking example doesn’t help. K . Kean, Ayr
