It’s time for festive fun and shopping

Ayr and Troon are pulling out all the stops this Sunday to get people out into the town centre streets to have fun.

And its a major boost to commerce as the Christmas Lights go on in both towns.

Troon’s long running Wintertain­ment takes over for a day with all shops open and major with special offers.

A full programme of events begin as Santa arrives not by sleigh, but the RNLI lifeboat to ferry him to his grotto.

In Ayr the event is branded as Little Stars Light Up Ayr!

From noon there is five hours of entertainm­ent, beginning with the Christmas Parade aboard the Ayr Polar Express from the Fish Cross.

The Winter King will be at the Wallace Tower Stage to see little stars of South Ayrshire before the cast of Ayr Gaiety theatre pantomime countdown to the lights switch on at 5pm.

Santa arrives in Troon at the seafront at 11.45am, heading to the Concert Hall for the RNLI fair.

Troon’s Gala Queen Kiana Wylie and her Princess Emmie Irvine lead the parade, leaving Templehill at 12.30pm.

They will be aboard Tony Peter’s Rolls Royce 1921 Silver Ghost by the Kilted Men of Troon.

Also in the festive parade are the Karlyn Bell Dancers, Sophie Oliver Dancers, Dancestars, Troon Coastal Rowing, Marine Hotel andMrs Claus.

The Parade turns into Portland Street, then into Church Street, Academy Street and finally into Ayr Street where it finishes beside the shops.

A vintage fire tender from Scottish Fire Service Museum will be on show at the Morrisons car park.

And other events will be on throughout the town including St Patrick’s Primary, Seagate Church, and Church of the Nazarene.

In St Meddan’s Church Hall there are Crafts and Puppets 2pm- 3.30pm and the church itself will be open 2pm- 4pm.

Afternoon teas will be served at Ivy Cottage and Academy Court sheltered housing.

Owl Magic’s feathered friends are in Church St.

The Albert Reid Fairground will takeover the Academy Street car park as usual.

South Ayrshire Tenants Choir and Troon Chorus take over the TownHall steps. The big switch on is there at 4pm; Beacon lit at 4.30pm
