OAP, 70, injured after being struck by van
The woman involved in Thursday afternoon’s road traffic accident on Whitletts Road, Ayr, is a pensioner, police have said.
The incident happened around 2.55pm on the westbound carriageway of the road when the lady was struck by a white Vauxhall Combo van.
She was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
After the incident both stretches of Whitletts Road were closed for some time in order for a crash scene investigation to take place.
It resulted in diversions being put in place for motorists coming in and out of Ayr.
Now police officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Inspector Greg Dinnie, of Ayrshire Road Policing, said: “I am looking for any witnesses, who have not already came forward, to call in and pass any information they may have in relation to this.
“I am particularly interested in speaking to any drivers or occupants of vehicles that were travelling in either direction on Whitletts Road near to the Tesco Supermarket at the time who may have witnessed the incident and may have dash- cam footage.
“Any information should be reported to Police Scotland by calling 101, quoting incident number 2038 of 14 November, 2019.”
News of the incident prompted heartfelt messages of support to the 70 year- old victim, who has not been named, on social media.
Carron Calder said: “Thoughts are with the people involved.”
Christine Mcmanus said: “Poor soul, hope she gets better soon.”
And Debbie Mccrorie added: “I really do hope she’s OK, been thinking about her all night and day. Poor wee soul.”
