Police launch festive campaign

- RYAN CARROLL

Police have officially launched their Safer South Ayrshire Festive Campaign.

It aims to ensure folk can work, party and shop safely, keep their homes and businesses secure as well as keeping people safe on our roads.

It will run throughout the festive period and Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, Local Area Commander for South Ayrshire, said he was delighted to launch the campaign.

Speaking exclusively to the Ayrshire Post, he said: “This is an extremely busy time of year for everyone and we want to ensure that it can be enjoyed safely.

“We have worked hard to review and develop the previous ‘ Safe Ayr’ operating model.

“Safer South Ayrshire brings together the resources of all our partners and allows the joint action group to effectively plan and resource the town centre plans of all our towns rather than being primarily Ayr- centric which previous plans had mainly covered. The policing operation that will support Safer South Ayrshire has been codenamed Operation Inver.

“It will see additional officers deployed at key times and key locations throughout the year to ensure those who choose to socialise in South Ayrshire can do so in a safe and enjoyable manner.

“This should allow us to Keep People Safe throughout South Ayrshire during the evening economy which is especially important during the festive period when our town centres can be at their busiest. I have planned for additional officers to cover all our town centres in South Ayrshire and I would encourage all shoppers and businesses to engage with them and to continue the positive relationship we have with each other.

“Alongside working with our partners I would also ask that residents and visitors consider their own safety before visiting, shopping or celebrating the festivities in South Ayrshire – plan ahead, stick with friends and look after your belongings. And if you need help contact us”.
