Seascape lands £ 50k windfall

-

A charity based in Ayr which is dedicated to helping people who are homeless- or at risk- is celebrating a windfall of £ 50,000.

And it’s all thanks to the local branch of Nationwide Building Society in the High Street, who’ve donated the cash.

The financial aid comes from Nationwide Building Society’s Community Grant Fund.

It ’ s a scheme where charitable organisations in Scotland can apply for grants of up to £ 50,000.

Now the assistance will give Seascape the opportunity to help even more people who come through their doors.

On hand at the cheque presentation were Margaret Greenan, Brian Kidd, Donna Brady and Judex Paul, all from Nationwide and May Gilchrist, Colin Ferguson and Kelsey Kane, who were representing Seascape.

Nationwide invited applications from across the whole of Scotland for grants of up to £ 50,000 to fund housing projects focussed on strengthening local communities and committed to making a real difference in local areas.

Projects range from innovative new housing and improving living conditions, to supporting the most vulnerable members of the community.

Locally, Seascape helped more than 450 people in housing need last year.

Garry Samson, Nationwide’s Regional Director for Scotland said: “We’re delighted to announce the outcome of our latest Community Grants programme, with 12 housing related charities and organisations across Scotland collectively benefitting from the Community Grant programme’s funds.

“In 2007, our members voted for us to donate at least one per cent of our pre- tax profits to good causes and that focus should be on issues around housing.

“The Community Grants programme is one of the ways we’re trying to make a longstanding difference, helping people living without the guarantee or stability of suitable, secure or affordable accommodation.”

Applications for the grants closed in early uly. The final decisions on the successful applications were made by a local Community Board made up of Nationwide members and colleagues.

Nationwide has now awarded more than £ 7.1m to more than 189 projects across the UK.
