Big freeze sidelines the table toppers

-

Marr Rugby’s weekend matches at youth and senior level were wiped out by the sub- zero temperatures that left pitches unplayable.

To help planning for travelling teams and support the youth matches against Stewart’s Melville College, they were cancelled on Friday, while on Saturday following early morning inspections it was clear that the pitches at Fullarton were unplayable, with little prospect of improvement.

Similar news quickly followed from Stoneyhill and Strathaven and this prevented a wasted day and unnecessary travel.

Marr Rugby’s senior players had to resign themselves to a gym work out.

Meanwhile the club’s rising star Scott Bickerstaff travelled with his Scotland 7s teammates to Dubai where he will play in the opening round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Scott’s opening match is tomorrow ( Thursday) when the Scotland side face Australia in the opening pool match.

This is followed on Friday with matches against USA and then Ireland to complete the pool stages.

See www. world. rugby/ sevens- series for details and links to views the matches.

On the senior rugby front Marr Rugby aim to get back into action with a double header on Saturday when the 1st and 2nd XV’s welcome GHA to Fullarton for the local derby matches.

The 3rd XV get their long road trip to Annan where they will play the home sides 2nd XV and Marr aim to head for the Christmas break retaining their position as league leaders.
