Ayr out to break 16- year Caley hoodoo

- STUART WILSON

Ayr United boss Mark Kerr says his team will be given the “best possible chance” to bust their Highland hoodoo.

The Honest Men, who haven’t won in Inverness for 16 years, will head up the A9 early on Friday morning.

Preparation will include an afternoon training session at Ross County’s Dingwall base.

And Kerr ( right) insists the meticulous planning can lay the groundwork for a big three points.

He said: “I’m keen that we do things in a professional manner and the club have been good enough to back me.

“I was lucky to be at clubs down the years where this was the way we did things.

“And the general feeling among our own players was that we felt the benefit of any overnight stays last year.

“We want to do everything right and give ourselves the best possible chance of going there and getting a positive result. There will be no excuses.

“Inverness have had our number in recent times but we know we are more than capable of doing the business.”

Kerr will be boosted by a healthier squad making the trip as both he and Steven Bell are now back to fitness. But Luke McCowan is suspended. Kris Doolan will be given every chance to get over his ankle problem and is rated as “50- 50” to make the Highlands.

Ayr were due back in action last night ( Tuesday) at home to Dunfermline – their first game since November 9.

The game against Arbroath, frozen off on Saturday, has been quickly rearranged for next Tuesday.

• The United Travel Club is bound for Inverness and will leave the Ship Inn at 9am on Saturday.

Seats £ 20 from 07792 747354 or 07599 289517.
