TERROR AS CARS TORCHED IN FIRE ATTACK

A shocked resident has told how two cars were deliberate­ly torched outside a farmhouse.

The vehicles were set alight just yards from a house in the early hours – while the residents slept in their beds.

One neighbour teared up and said: “We believe the cars were set alight deliberate­ly.”

O On M Monday d afternoon ft th the shells h ll of the two cars sat burnt out in front of the secluded farmhouse at Knockjarde­r Farm on the B7034 in Dalrymple.

And the terrified resident teared up as they said: “We believe the cars were set alight deliberate­ly but we cannot comment any further than that just now as the police are dealing with it.”

The cars were so close to the house that the side of the property was blackened by the flames.

Several residents were woken abruptly after the fire caused loud explosions to be heard in the town at around 1am on Monday.

One Dalrymple resident said: “I heard it and wondered what it was. It was a really loud explosion of some sort. It was like fireworks. I hope nobody is hurt.”

Another added: “I heard it from mine. It woke me up. I hope everyone is okay.”

The fire brigade quickly attended the scene and managed to get the flames under control.

They later confirmed that there were no reported casualties.

A police spokespers­on said: “Enquiries are at an early stage and CID are now dealing with it.”

A fire service spokespers­on said: “We were alerted to reports of a number of fires in Dalrymple. Operations control received calls at 1.22am, 1.47am and 1.51am to separate reports of vehicles and farm machinery alight around Holms Farm Road. A number of fire appliances were mobilised on each occasion and firefighte­rs extinguish­ed the flames.”
