SWIMMING SOUTH AYRSHIRE SWIM TEAM

Fifty three swimmers from South Ayrshire Swim Team made the trip to the DG1 Leisure Complex for the Dumfries Open Meet.

It was the first swim meet in nearly six years after the centre was closed in 2014.

The competitio­n was a huge success and the South Ayrshire swimmers took advantage, collecting an impressive 63 medals, including 16 gold.

Charlotte Hardy, in the 11/ 12yrs, showed her versatilit­y with victories in the 100 breast and 200 IM, finishing runner up in the 100 free and 3rd for the 100 fly and 100 IM.

Eilidh Robertson walked away with three silvers and a bronze and all four swims being personal bests- including an amazing 40 second improvemen­t in the 400 free.

In the 13- 14yrs, Dylan Cashmore collected six medals with his best performanc­es, taking gold in the 100 fly and backstroke, putting to good use improvemen­ts made on his underwater dolphin kick.

Lucy McNally recorded a lifetime best in the 400 IM for the win, whilst Jessica Murdoch impressed with personal bests in all four of her races.

Her best results came in the 100 and 400 free, placing 3rd for both.

Evie Scott- Galli smashed her best times in the 100 and 200 breaststro­ke for two well earned bronze medals.

Amber Stevenson has made some excellent improvemen­ts in training which have started to convert into competitio­n. Amber took home six medals including wins in the 100 free, 200 free and 200IM and all in personal best times.

Ara Barami took 3 rd in the 200 fly- just a head of team mate Ben Caldwell with both swimmers executing very well- paced races.

Duncan Young managed to head home with a complete set of medals after winning the 100 free, taking 2nd in the 400 free and finishing 3rd in the 100 fly.

In the 15 years and over age group Team Captain Lucy Grieve dominated in three of her events taking victory in the 400 free, 200 fly and 400IM.

John Houston also took three gold medals home from the 100 Back, 100 Breast and 100 freestyle.

The 100 backstroke was also a three second personal best. Keira Stericker collected an impressive six medals over the weekend including gold in the 100 breaststro­ke and a bronze in the 200IM with a massive personal best by seven seconds.

Eve Mair also had a busy weekend and finished runner up in the 200 and 400 free, with 3rd place finishes in the 100 free, 100 back and 200 back.

Boys captain Oscar Smillie placed runner up in the 100 Backstroke and 100 freestyle with 3 rd spot in the 400IM.

AndLewis Hammond showed a return to form with four silvers and two bronze.

His most impressive swim came in the 200IM, finishing 2nd with a five second lifetime best- just ahead of team mate Ross Erentz.

Ross also impressed with a nine second best time in the IM and added a silver from the 100 breast, just ahead of teammate Matthew Gordon in 3rd place.

Calum Dunn picked up silver in the 200 backstroke and a bronze in the 100 backstroke with a personal best time.

Sam Moore took two seconds off his best for 3rd in the 200 breast and just missed the podium with another best time in the 100 for 4th.

Other swimmers finishing in the top 8 included Enzo Cheng, Lennox Doherty, Rory Duncan, Julie Dunn, Daniel Frew, Ruby Galloway, Lex Garrett, Erin Hammond, Anna Lunan, Brogan McKinnon, Victoria McCormick, Phoebe Murdoch, Olivia Paton, Brooke Smillie and Kymberley Willis.

The next competitio­ns for the South Ayrshire Swim Team include 13 swimmers heading to Edinburgh for the Scottish Short Course National Championsh­ips between the 13th- 15th December.

Then on the last weekend before Christmas South Ayrshire Swim Team will be hosting their own Open Meet which has attracted around 400 swimmers and has been sponsored by William Duncan & Co Chartered Accountant­s and Business Advisors.

The best score on the Bruce course was by Quintin Dunlop ( 6) 83.

The Turnberry ladies played for the Piersland Trophy, a Stableford competitio­n which was won by Jean McMillan ( 35 points) followed by Anne Grant ( 33 points) and Sylvia Kemp ( 32 points).

Ayr Seniors continued their winning form with a convincing 4 rink 86- 30 victory against visitors Allander. Ayr skips first J Henderson 19 J Young10; D McKie 21 J Harvey 6; S Wyllie 22 J Batey 11; R Lang 24 S McCabe 3. Next week sees them travel to Paisley where a victory will leap frog them into second place.

The Ladies section were also victorious, away at Inverclyde winning 53- 49.

The Gents however were always behind at Whiteinch with the game finishing at 69- 88.

Ayr skips first S Christie 15 C Taggart 23; J Clark 16 S Bothwick 25; P Shields 20 D Gaultierie 16; J Seaton 18 P Murray 24.

No games next week for Gents or Ladies with there being Scottish Triples actions.

In the Gents, D Lang D Shields and P Shields play East Kilbride whilst the Ladies of J Paterson, J Arnott and M Hutchison play Inverclyde. Both games at 2pm at Ardrossan

In the Ayrshire Gents Top 9 they were second place to hosts Ardrossan.

PRESTWICK AMBASSADOR

Prestwick Gents were beaten 110- 53 away at Blantyre on Saturday, with all four rinks losing.

The Seniors recorded their worst home result of the season as they were beaten 73- 37 by East Kilbride.

On Sunday the SYIBA Fours took place at Falkirk with Lily Stuart, Alice Jones, Luke Jones and Ross Gouldstone representi­ng Prestwick, unfortunat­ely they were unable to qualify out their group.

After the SIBA Internatio­nal Trials for the Ladies and Gents sides at Stirling on Sunday, both Paul Foster and Darren Weir have been selected for the Gents side to compete in the Internatio­nal Series at Llanelli in March.

Rebecca Houston has regained her place in the Ladies side to compete in the Internatio­nal Series which will also take place at Llanelli in March.

The SIBA have also named their trialists for the Ladies and Gents Under 25 teams.

Darren Weir, Andrew Weir and John Fleming have all been selected for the Gents Trial and Rachel Houston and Rebecca Houston have been selected for the Ladies Trial.

This weekend the focus is on the SIBA National Triples play downs at Cumbernaul­d.

The Gents triple of Jordan Slaven, Darren Weir and Paul Foster take on Cumbernaul­d on Saturday morning at 9.30am.

In the Ladies event the Prestwick trio of Rachel Houston, Lyn Houston and Rebecca Houston face East Fife also on Saturday morning at 9.30am.

AUCHINLECK INDOOR BC

Fabulous results this weekend with all three teams winning their matches. All teams are sitting at the top of their sections in the SIBA Leagues.

The Senior team travelled to Glasgow and Auchinleck won by 63 shots to 46 shots.

Ricks scores: B Anderson 21 A Campbell 9, J Fleming 9 S Aitken 12, E Duncan 21 I Hudson 9, T Woods 12 J McDonald 16. The Gents team travelled to Bathgate to play Balbardie and Auchinleck won with the last bowl to win 71- 70.

Scores were: C Johnston 30 I Shearer 16, D McClue 15 J Ellis 24, D Ferguson 12 K Mcdougall 14, S Rankin 14 M Bone 16. The Ladies team played Blantyre at home and Auchinleck won by 83 shots to 37.

Scores: M Shimmons 30 C McLelland 11, C Johnston 26 M Letham 14, H Kay 27 C Anderson 12.

Sunday 1st December. Baird Bowl Competitio­n: Auchinleck Outdoor 6 points Glaisnock Valley 0 points, Galston 0 points Auchinleck Indoor 6 points. SYIBA Fours Championsh­ip was played at Falkirk where George Robertson, Mason Carson, Callum Cowan and Scott Robertson failed to qualify for the knock out stages.

The Ayrshire Indoor Bowling Associatio­n Top Nine championsh­ips were played with the Gents at Ardrossan and Ladies at Galleon.

Auchinleck Ladies team finished in runners up spot and the Gents team finished in third place.

The SIBA Internatio­nal trials were held at Stirling IBC.

Claire Johnston and Coleen Cowie were selected for the Ladies team and Garry Johnstone was picked for the Gents Team.

The BIIBC British Isles Championsh­ips and Internatio­nal Series will be played at Llanelli IBC, Wales from March 6 to March 14.
