Family- run eaterie picks up top award

-

A takeaway king is celebrating after his family’s popular eaterie gained national recognition.

Sukhi Singh and the team at Ayr’s Spice Lounge have been given a top honour by the Good Food Awards.

Designed to pick out the country’s “blue ribband for takeaways,” the awards honour the creme de la creme.

And the Spice Lounge, based in the town’s Alloway Street, has been named among the latest intake.

The family- run haunt has been a firm favourite with diners over the last decade.

Sukhi, 27, admitted: “This means a lot to us. All of the staff here work hard, so to be recognised in this way is really great.

“The business has been here for 10 years now and we’ve always worked to maintain our standards and improve wherever we can.

“So when you get awards like this you know you’re doing something right.”

The takeaway had to battle against competitors to prove it was ahead on taste, food hygiene, and customer feedback.

A major renovation of the property last year saw Sukhi and his family invest a substantial sum in rebranding their well known ‘ Kebab King’ outlet.

And the business has gone from strength to strength ever since, with customers flocking to try everything from homestyle curries to kebabs.

Sukhi, who runs the takeaway with his mum, dad and sister, said: “It’s nice that our customers voted for us in so many numbers.

“We’re one of the top rated takeaways online and pride ourselves on good feedback.

“But you never expect to win awards, so it’s fantastic for all of us.”
