A well earned 11 out 10 for Mr Gerry Ferrara’s informed letter of last month.

At last someone else has the guts to say it how it is, and how South Ayrshire is a Failure! “None so blind” Most of these problems arise from a long list of elected councillors rubber continually stamping, non elected employees, wishing to spend more money on yet another study or proposal. Without proper scrutiny and asking the bureaucrats who actually now run South Ayrshire one simple question; Why?

Mr Ferrara’s list is long and detailed and I have no argument with

anything he has highlighted. I would however add some more “Failures!”

The arrangement this council has with Ayr Rugby Club for instance

regards The Dam Park Stadium. Whatever that might be, as it seems to be a big secret? And stemming from that question, what will really happen

to Ayr Seaforth and Whitlettes’ Junior Football Club, not forgetting local

schools, which use it for sports days and the Kids Football Tournament

Finals who used it back in the days when I was still refereeing?

We also have the issue of the proposed Golf Range, yet another attack on the Old Racecourse and the well used playing fields there. The last harebrained scheme was to build a New Grammar School there. The fact residents of that wider area consider things like the kids Football Tournaments to be a distraction, has been clearly evident for years now, and again our councillors have pandered to them. The town now has an even bigger snob factor that frankly is an anachronism and unworthy of “Auld Ayr a town that none surpasses” parking cones wrongly pervade surroundings when these events are running. When was the last time a full tournament was played at Roselle? And the popular

Flower Show is unrecognisable from what went before, if it even exists now? Even the Holy Fair has moved. These instances are also failures!
