CAGEY KERR WON’T PANIC

Ayr boss plays transfer waiting game

- STUART WILSON

Mark Kerr insists he is prepared to cast his transfer net far and wide in search of new faces at Somerset Park.

The Ayr boss admits he’s endured a “frustrating” time in the January market thus far.

But he claims the right players will come along – even if he has to wait until the final hours of the month.

He said: “We’ve missed out on a couple but it’s a case of being patient.

“At this stage a number of players are in the same position and talking to a lot of clubs — so it’s often the last three or four days of January before things really start moving.

“It’s not like other clubs are out there signing lots of players, so we’re in the same boat as everyone else.”

Kerr admitted he would also look at the English market as he bids to bolster his squad.

He said: “We’re not ruling anything out. There will be a number of options between now and the end of the month and we’ll see what benefits the squad best.”

The need to bring in reinforcements could be hastened by an injury to Andy Geggan, who is set for a scan on his swollen knee.

Livingston have yet to return with an increased offer for Alan Forrest, who is a summer target for Dundee and Partick.

Thistle boss Ian McCall is also keen on luring Danny Harvie to Firhill.

Meanwhile, United are in Scottish Cup action this Saturday against Ross County at Somerset.

Kerr said: “We know them well from last season and our games were always tight. It’s one we feel we have a chance of winning.”

• Tickets for the club’s Burns Supper on Friday, February 7 are on sale priced £ 30 from Somerset and at www. ayrunitedfc. co. uk
