Famous five shine for Marr on Scotland duty

-

With the break in the domestic campaign, Marr Rugby supporters turned their attention to supporting the international sides starting on Friday with Scotland’s Club XV who were playing in Dublin.

This was in the second leg of the Dalriada Cup and Marr continued to enjoy healthy representation with Conor Bickerstaff, Scott Bickerstaff, Calvin Henderson, Will Farquhar and Colin Sturgeon selected and going on to gain their second cap for Scotland.

It was a hard, well fought and close contest with Ireland just edging out as winners 22- 17.

Marr’s players once again impressed and were closely involved in the scoring moves or adding points.

Henderson, Farquhar and Sturgeon were introduced off the bench during the second half and were pivotal in

Scotland’s fightback.

Farquhar made one of his trademark breaks that led to Scotland’s second try and Sturgeon added the additional points following a successful conversion.

In the closing stages Conor and Scott Bickerstaff had chances but were kept out by determined defence.

For the Marr players involved it was another great experience and learning that they will bring back into the club side as the focus now returns to league action.

This Saturday all three Marr Rugby senior sides are in action – all away from home.

The 1st XV travel to play Edinburgh Accies and know they are not in for an easy afternoon.

Earlier in the season the reverse fixture at Fullarton ended in a draw and

Accies were unfortunate not to win the game.

Since then Accies’ form has slipped and they will be desperate to take Marr’s scalp as they fight to get out of the relegation zone.

Marr will need to be in top form to get a positive result.

In the other matches Marr Rugby’s 2nd XV travel to Old Anniesland where they will hope to add further misery to GHK after the convincing 84- 0 win when the sides met earlier in the season at Fullarton.

Last but not least, Marr Rugby’s 3rd XV travel to play Strathaven’s 2nd XV in a top of the table clash.

It looks like this will be the game of the day in this league as Marr battle to stay in the top slot while Strathaven will be hoping home advantage will let them grab the points and close the gap.
