Pupils’ 18- mile trip after school closed

should be dropped off at the bus stop within Dunure village ( normal pick up place for the school bus) at 8.40am.

“The bus will return to this bus stop at 3.20pm and children should be collected at that point. A member of staff will travel with the children on the bus.

“Should you require to collect your child/ children early, you must make your own way to

Maidens Primary School.”

On Thursday last week, a team of workmen concentrated their efforts on two gaping holes in the playground, where the broken section of piping was due to be replaced.

No timescale was given as to when work would be complete but workmen were understood to be satisfied with the progress they made.

South Ayrshire Council Ward Councillor William Grant said: “I have been kept up to date with what has happened and would hope to have clarity on the exact fault soon and how quickly it can be remedied.

“Maidens and Fisherton have a shared Head ( Teacher), therefore the pupils of both schools know each other very well.

“I believe what is in place at present is working satisfactorily for all.”

A Council spokesperson said the school will remain closed until they are sure pupils and staff can gain access safely.

The spokesperson said : “A lot of work has taken place at Fisherton Primary School to combat the flooding issue.

“The drain became blocked due to the amount of heavy rainfall and debris in the pipe. The Council has been working to clear and repair the drain and culvert at the school.

“Temporary measures are in place which have stopped the flow of water over the school wall and down the road.

“Most of the water has been diverted into a nearby culvert. Sandbags were provided to residents by ARA as required. ARA also arranged for road clearance works to be carried out.

“There has been a lot of damage caused by the recent storms and we will continue to work with partners to ensure issues are solved as quickly as possible.

“The school will remain closed until we are sure that children and staff can access the building safely. “

“Contingency arrangements are now in place for all pupils including Early Years to attend Maidens Primary School.”
