Two shoplifters face a sweat before learning their fate in court.

Gordon McKay, aged 44, of Campbell Court, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 12.

He admitted a charge of stealing a quantity of household items from Wilko, in the town’s High Street, on September 6 2019.

Caroline Marris, aged 52, of Russell Drive, also appeared in the dock.

She admitted a charge of stealing a quantity of groceries and household items from Tesco, in the High Street, on September 6 last year.

Sheriff Ross Macfarlane deferred sentence until March 17 so that the case can call with other matters.

Pupils at Fisherton Primary School are continuing to face an 18mile round trip for their lessons – after a major drainage issue forced the school’s closure last week.

South Ayrshire Council announced last Tuesday afternoon that the school would not open on Wednesday, February 12 after a drainage pipe, which runs underneath the playground, had burst.

The damage was caused in the wake of Storm Ciara, forcing a section of the fire clay piping to break up and force floodwater across the school and down into Station Road.

A statement from South Ayrshire Council read: “Due to a major drainage issue within the school grounds, the school and early years classes will be closed Wednesday 12th February.”

However, a later statement from the local authority said the school, which has around 23 pupils and four nursery children, would be closed “until further notice.”

The statement continued: “Children will be transported to Maidens Primary to continue their lessons.

“This situation is the result of a major drainage issue within Fisherton Primary School grounds.

“All children ( early years - P7)
