Tributes paid to Polish war dead
The RAFA Club in Prestwick organised a Polish Navy Day .
The special event included a reenactment of Poland’s “Wedding to the Sea”. Poland’s Wedding to the Sea was a ceremony meant to symbolise restored Polish access to the Baltic Sea that was lost in 1793 by the Partitions of Poland.
The event went well, notwithstanding the strong winds and chill factor. The event was attended by provost Helen Moonie, vice- vonsul of the Republic of Poland, Mr Michal Zawisza, Mr Ian
Forsyth MBE, World War 2 veteran and liberator of Belsen , members of the Royal British Legion, members of the Polish Combatants Memorial Group, standard bearers from the various services, boys and girl cadets from the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
The Reverend Dougie Moore conducted the service. Mr Sean Whitelaw from the RAFA club and his wife Maud organised the club and prepared the Memorial area.

Standard Bearer and John Lass as convenor of the group reenacted the ring ceremony at the beach.
Mr Lass said it was a very moving day and added: “At the conclusion of the services a number of speeches were made to those present by the provost, vice- consul and myself, all emphasising that remembrance was important and that although many men and women lost their lives in the war, many thousands of children and young people similar to those who attended also gave of themselves in the conflict.”
