This quirky home used to be thatch

Old cottage with even older view

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

The view out the back is almost timeless.

The current castle on the hill did change - way back in 1371.

Prior to that there was a lesser castle, and even further back a hill fort.

What you are assure of is the view won’t change again - nobody is going to build another Dundonald Castle.

An old terraced cottage is on the market through Troon agent Waddell and Mackintosh at offers over £ 159,500.

Back in the 18th Century it was two workers cottages, covered by a thatched roof.

Now it has a rear extension, the cottage is of a decent size, and there is the potential to develop the loft.

There is already a pull down ladder and two rooms set- out, each with a Velux window to the rear.

Both the bedrooms - each about 15 and a half feet wide - have a window to the front and the back, which is actually a rare thing.

The dining room is semi open plan via sliding doors to the 14’ 7” x 13’ 3” lounge which enjoys patio doors to a deck.

The small kitchen leads to a vestibule and the main rear door.

All windows are double or triple glazed and there is gas central heating.

The agents say: “This is a most unique and quirky traditional terraced cottage set within the heart of the popular village setting of Dundonald within a stones throw of doctors surgery, chemist and local shops.”

It is the long, traditional glebe- style garden that will be a key asset of the new owners.

Sun bastes your land for most of the day- and that castle on the hill gives you a rather special feature.

The garden is packed with interesting shrubberies and is a great space for growing ( there’s a greenhouse) and entertaining.

At the very foot of the land is a gorgeous mini- me cottage of stone and slate. What a great place to contemplate life or write that paperback. A gate here leads to the common pastoral ground, so you can walk the dogs directly onto countryside and up to Dundonald Hill.

Another outbuilding, a lean- to of brick and slate, is plumbed for a washing machine and has a disused toilet. Call Waddell and Mackintosh 01292 314922, o/ o £ 159,500.
