Officers subjected to torrent of abuse

-

were given a verbal tongue lashing from an injured man they were trying to assist for a cut to his hand.

Drunk James Williams labelled the beat cops “t****,” and “piggy b*******” during his verbal tirade.

Williams also used the C word during the exchange.

Williams, 22, of Crosshill Road, Maybole, appeared at

Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, February 25.

He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm and that he did shout, swear, break a window and utter offensive remarks. The offence took place on October 19 last year at Nelson Place, Ayr.

Fiscal Depute Alice Carey said the offence unfolded at 9pm when police received a call from a member of the public.

They turned up and Williams was under the influence of alcohol.

“He smashed a window and was bleeding from a cut to his hand,” said Ms Carey.

“Police saw the smashed glass and attempted to assist him but he became volatile, calling them t****.”

Police attempted to provide medical assistance but Williams became“volatile.”

Ms Carey said: “He was calling them c****, piggy b******* and he continued to shout and swear. He used the C word repeatedly.”

His defence solicitor said: “He’s already on a community payback order and has ongoing issues with alcohol.

“There’s been a significant reduction in his consumption of alcohol, it’s drink that gets this young man into trouble.”

Sheriff Colin Dunipace said: “You’re in a relatively early stage of a community payback order and I will defer sentence for six months and order you to be of good behaviour.”
