Burns in his own backyard

The Burns for Life supper for South Ayrshire schools has now run for 20 years.

Hosted by Alloway Burns Club, it is the biggest of its type, one supper was in the morning and a second in the afternoon.

Ayr Town Hall was filled with 150 pupils from 37 primaries and all eight secondarie­s were there.

Members and friends of Alloway Burns Club ensured the event ran smoothly.

It was jointly chaired by Ainslie Bryden and Erin Reid of Ayr Academy .

Tam o’Shanter was performed by Heathfield Primary’s Rory Wilson,

Eilidh McKay and Evan Henderson.

Evie O’Hara, Analise Melvin and Lucas Thorrat of Newton did ‘ To a Mouse.’ while Leah Findlay and Asia Kelly of nearby Braehead did ‘ My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose.’

Jamie Alexander of Wellington did ‘ Address to the Toothache’ while Katey Davidson, Reece Gibson and Chloe Elliot of Kincaidsto­n performed ‘ Bruiachain­n Abhainn Duin.’

The Immortal Memory was proposed by Symington trio Jude Ronald, Max McGarvie and Jai Cunningham.

Emily Harris, Scott Scremin and Callum Carswell of Doonfoot told ‘ Ma Da Says’ and Annbank girls Calla Robb, Katja Dempsey and Beth McGarrie sang ‘ Caledonia.’

Liam Foy from Southcraig gave the Selkirk Grace and Hannah Grant of Tarbolton took to the stage with ‘ Tae a Scotch Pie.’ Brandon Hiddleston and Alexander Clark of Dalmilling toasted the lassies and schoolmate Carmen McFadden replied.

Bridget Ford, James Hamilton and Abbie Douglas of Colyton also did Tam o’Shanter and Sophia Walker of Alloway narrated ‘ Address to the Toothache.

The vote of thanks was by Heather Picken of Holmston.
