The charming hamlet of Culroy

Sign links sleepy spot with London

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

An old RAC and AA sign has been fixed to an old wooden door longer than most can remember.

That’s how people know Culroy is exactly 398 miles from London.

And its also five miles from Ayr and three from Maybole.

Now we have the geography, here’s the house.

Larachbeg is a split- level three bedder in the heart of this hamlet named after the Culroy Burn.

You get a garden so big it has space to build another home. Full planning permission is in force to build a four bed country home.

So there are certainly opportunities within the offers over £ 235,000 asking price.

Agents Corum say: “Larachbeg is a traditional country home which provides a stylish and flexible layout over two levels.

“The property is presented in excellent decorative order with an excellent level of fixture and finish.”

The breakfasting and dining kitchen is the star of the show, incorporating a large conservatory.

This has views over a lovely bank of old Scottish woodland and a multitude of bird and wildlife.

The fitted kitchen furniture in the light wooden- floored kitchen includes a breakfast bar.

The main 24 ft 6 in space can be split from the 11ft 4 in conservatory with a heavy curtain.

With no gas in the countyside, heat is from LPG tank. And that is backed by a big log burner in the corner of the near 21- foot lounge.

There is a separate dining room off the lounge if you have more formal guests.

Both of the main bedrooms are on the top floor, which is at road level, and offers a glazed vestibule.

A modern tiled bathroom completes this level.

Downstairs there is another loo, this time with a shower.

Outside you can park four cars on the monobloc, but there is no garage.

Gardens are “extensive” with mature trees as well as planted shrubs, bushes and a meandering path.

Culroy sits amidst rolling Carrick countryside, yet there are neighbours close at hand.

Call Corum on 01292 880888, offers over £ 235,000.
