She added: “I feel the village has been abandoned and and we have been let down by Jeane Freeman.

“She should be looking at alternatives, but there has been nothing.

“It is still not too later for her to turn this around - there are two spaces still available at the community hub.

“I am not doing this for myself, there is a lot of people in the village who need this service here.

“I am fighting this not just for Tarbolton, but other villages who may face losing their local surgery in the future.”

The mother of four and gran of eight has lived in Tarbolton since 1971 and laments the loss of shops and pubs including the Crown and the Plough.

She added: “I used to be able to get anything I wanted her. But we are being forgotten about.”

Jeane Freeman countered Maureen’s claims she failed to intervenue.

Jeane said: “As the local MSP, I wrote to Tarbolton Community Council on February 21 seeking a meeting with the community councillors to discuss the situation further.

“I have also written to the management at Taiglum Medical Practice asking a number of questions on behalf of constituents regarding their decision to withdraw from their Tarbolton premises. To date I have had no response from either organisation but I continue to pursue these matters.”

The eight- doctor Taiglum Practice - which also runs surgeries in Drongan and Colyton - said there is room for expansion at Mossblown. And they add: “Better facilities will hopefully result in the best possible patient care.”

This week the practice failed to reveal why they had been considering an alternative for 15 years.
