awareness campaign backing the bid.

The track, called Don’t Forget

Who You Are, will be released on May 11, to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.

Former Kyle Academy pupil Leah, who studies an HNC in Music at Ayrshire College, said: “I wanted the song to be relatable.

“It’s important for young people, especially, to realise they are not alone.

“It was a different experience for me to work on this with the likes of Jai because I’m just used to writing songs in my room.”

The 16- year- old added: “Being in the studio with someone like him has been amazing.”

The Britain’s Got Talent winner, himself a former Ayr College student, was all too happy to return to his old stomping ground for the project.

Jai, 33, said: “When I was asked to get involved, I gladly accepted.

“Mental health is something we all need to be aware of and speak far more about.

“If we can bring it to people’s attention more through this record, that would be great.

And he added: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Leah, she’s a great talent.

“It’s an upbeat song which has a nice message and, for me, it’s been fantastic to be back in the creative hub here working with someone like her.”

College curriculum manager, John McTaggart, added: “For us, the project was all about spreading the message that people have to believe in life.

“Believe that there is always something better to come – there is always another day.

And he added: “It’s been great to see Leah and Jai working together and the song is sounding fantastic.”

The track will be available for download on streaming sites.
