Nature snapper Will tells of his African odyssey

-

Will Burrard- Lucas is a nature photographer and innovator, he’s one of the world’s foremost camera operators, scooping numerous highprofile accolades such as the Sony World Photographer of the Year.

Later this month Royal Scottish Geographical Society feature Will speaking in Ayr as part of the Inspiring People talks programme.

Perhaps his most famous image to date is one he took in 2018 of an extremely rare, black melanistic leopard. Having set up a complex web of camera traps in the Laikipia Wilderness Reserve in Kenya, he couldn’t believe his luck when he checked his camera and found the first high quality image of this animal in the wild – it made headlines across the globe.

During his talks in Scotland, Burrard- Lucas will discuss this exciting adventure in Africa, and his journey to capture similar shots of rare and majestic animals around the world. He’ll explain how he produces fresh perspectives and captures the natural world in his own particular style.

He’ll also outline the role of technology in his work, with a particular focus on his remote- control “BeetleCam” – an armoured remote- control buggy for DSLR cameras that allows snaps in positions no human can go.

Commenting on the upcoming event, which will be illustrated with stunning images and videos from his projects, Will said:

“I am very much looking forward to returning to Scotland later this month and to sharing my stories with the audience in Ayr.

“I will be talking about my expeditions in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Zambia.” Will is at Ayr Town Hall on Wednesday March 25. The talk begins at 7.30pm and ticketsr £ 10 are available at www. rsgs. org or on the door.
