Southcraig School in deep clean move

-

A school has been deep- cleaned as a precaution against the rise of the pandemic.

A team cleaned every surface of the Southcraig School in Ayr on Monday.

The school for children with additional needs was open to pupils as it did not need to close.

A council spokesman said the move was just a “precaution” and “nobody had contracted Coronavirus” related to the school.

Secondary and primary children attend the Belmont Avenue school, which teaches children with additional support needs.

Responding to a question about whether any care homes impacted have been hit by the virus in the area, he said: “We are not aware of any care homes being closed or cleaned.”

The council has appealed for people with symptoms of Covid- 19 not to visit council offices or centres.

A statement said: “In the interest of public health, and to protect employees and customers, if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, a high temperature or have been in direct contact with anyone who has Coronavirus, please do not visit council offices or facilities.”

People are asked to get in touch by telephone on 0300 123 0900 instead.

Meanwhile, a public event to discuss ideas for Ayr’s new public park has been cancelled on Thursday. A council statement said:

“In light of recent Government advice, the public engagement event at the Grain Exchange on Thursday for the Riverside Site in Ayr, has been cancelled. We will be exploring alternative ways of sharing the latest plans.”

The number of people infected with Coronavirus has reached seven in Ayrshire.

The health board said it is not going to release the local authority areas or any information on where they are located.
