Ayrshire Post

Post to take its place on iconic game Paper set to feature on Monopoly board

-

The Ayrshire Post is heading for the Fleet Street space on the region’s new MONOPOLY board.

It was announced early this month that the MONOPOLY dice will be rolling on Ayr, with a unique official game due out in October in time for Christmas 2020.

And it is announced that the Post has emerged as the RED hot favourite to land the red Fleet Street square from the game’s London classic and get to star on this very famous MONOPOLY space.

Fleet Street in the heart of London was the actual home of the UK newspaper industry for centuries.

Today it is home to banks and coffee houses but it is still considered spiritually to be the home of the industry.

George Shrimpton, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK - who are producing this game under official license from the MONOPOLY brand, owned by Hasbro – “We believe Fleet Street is the correct home for the Ayrshire Post, which we understand dates back to 1880, just when Fleet Street was really taking off.

“Ayr is blessed with great landmarks from the Ayr United to everything Burns.

“We expect to be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this game together.

“This edition will showcase great and the good of Ayr.”

Fleet Street in London soared in the 1880’ s – just as the Ayrshire Post was founded – with various ‘ penny titles.

Since the announcement that Ayr is ‘ Passing GO’ the public has been voting in its many thousands for landmarks to feature in the game.#

And three Ayr charities are being sought from this week to get the ‘ Chance’ to star on the brand new official MONOPOLY game for Ayr.

The charities will get to be immortalised on the board – on three of the game’s Community Chest and Chance spaces

To qualify the charities have to be “clearly Ayrshire focused”.

And they must also be currently registered with The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator. Currently there are around 24,000 Scottish charities registered with an estimated 2,000+ of those within the Ayrshire borders.

More than 4000 nominations have been sent in so far. Polls closed at 11.59pm on Monday, March 16.

Of the nominations the Museum itself and everything Burns has polled exceptionally well. Also very popular with the public have been Ayr Utd football club, Royal Troon Golf Club and Ayr’s 151- year- old Dunaskin Doon Brass Band.

Fiona Waddington, band secretary of the Dunaskin Doon Brass Band, says she is delighted that her band has polled so well.

She said: “Dunaskin Doon Brass Band has a 151- year heritage in Ayrshire and we are keeping everything crossed that we either qualify in the general polling, or specifically as a registered charity.”

“To be immortalised in everybody’s favourite board game would be a fantastic and fun way to be remembered, aside from our musical legacy.”

From Wednesday 18th March 2020 polls are to re- open for nominations specifically for charities and will remain open for one week.

Votes for Ayr charities to feature in the game via two ways: 1. By email to: ayr@ winningmoves. co. uk . 2. To the official Ayr MONOPOLY Facebook page. Polling opens at 00.01am on Wednesday 18th March and closes at 23.59pm on Tuesday March 24.
