Running festival is on hold until 2021

-

A major running festival has been shelved until next year amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Go! Festival, which launched last year in Ayr, was due to return in 2020 with hundreds entering from across the country.

The event proved a hit last year with a half marathon, 10k and family cycle rides taking place in the town.

Organisers hoped for an even bigger field this year, with the event forming part of the Scottish Airshow celebrations.

But they’ve been forced to pull the plug and wait until next year.

Spokesman Doug Maclean said: “The Covid- 19 pandemic is causing a great deal of uncertainty for all events planned to be held in 2020.

“The present lockdown and ban on public gatherings is placing a large workload on a lot of major organisations and we have no desire to interrupt their vital work.

“The inaugural Go! Festival last year was a great success and we have done a lot of work during the winter promoting the festival and Ayr.

“The feedback from all over the UK was very positive about the festival and Ayr as a venue.

“We have also planned for additional family activities on the Low Green during the day and into the evening.

“Hundreds of people have already entered the races and many have already booked accommodation in the area.

“We believe that the Go! Festival will continue to thrive in Ayr. “

He added: “Saturday, April 24, 2021, is the beginning of the summer race season and the new date will give families something to look forward to and a boost to local tourism.”
