No party for us – Talbot

Talbot boss Tucker on THAT league title fallout

- STUART WILSON

Auchinleck manager Tommy Sloan insists he won’t celebrate his men being crowned league champions.

The Talbot boss admitted he was “surprised” to see his club awarded the West Region Premiership crown by Junior beaks.

It came with Tucker’s side sitting 12 points off league leaders Kilwinning, albeit with nine games in hand.

The legendary boss said: “There will be no partying from us.

“The decision was made and we had no bearing on it.

“Now we just want to get back to playing football, whenever that might be.”

When it comes to being handed trophies, Auchinleck boss Tommy Sloan could write the book.

Barely a season of Sloan’s glorious reign passes without the Beechwood Park cabinet stocking up on more silverware.

But this year, with football on lockdown and the game in hibernation, even Tucker has managed to pen a new chapter on how to win the league.

Last week’s decision by junior chiefs to award titles on a points per game method has raised eyebrows across the nation.

Not least because Talbot were sitting in third in the West Region Premiership and some 12 points behind leaders Kilwinning when the last whistle blew.

But that’s all water off a duck’s back to Sloan, even if the fuss over the decision has turned him into a media star.

He joked: “It’s all gone a bit crazy since the decision was announced... I even had Sky television on doing one of those video calls with me.

“I guess it shows how little we have to talk about these days when junior football makes it that far.

“Listen, we had nothing to do with the decision, so it’s for other people to make those calls.

“I was surprised in that I thought they might just null and void it, but there’s obviously reasons for doing what they did and I get that.

“But there certainly won’t be any partying or celebrations from us.

“That’s not how we do things and our only focus is on getting back to playing football, whenever that may be.”

Tucker and Talbot will be to the fore of the newly established West of Scotland

League, due to kick off next season.

And he added: “It’s an exciting time for everyone at this level of the game and all the players on my books have already told me they want to remain, which is great.

“Obviously the biggest thing is just getting back to playing football.

“What we’re all going through right now is like nothing I can ever remember and the big picture is obviously people’s health, but hopefully we can get back to doing what we love sooner rather than later.”
