Truck fleet tribute to our NHS heroes
We’ve seen people and organisations in Ayrshire go to some extraordinary lengths to show their support to the NHS and essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
But Gordon Transport Solutions may just have trumped all previous effortsby decking out one of their giant fleet vehicles.
One of their fleet vehicle’s trailers has had a major makeover and it’s all designed to tip the hat to the life- saving work the NHS and their staff do on a daily basis.
And the new- look truck was handed its public debut on Thursday, up at Ayr Hospital where staff, patients and visitors could catch the first glimpse.
Also on hand to support the firm was Oilfast Account manager, Neil Watson, and one of his firm’s trucks.
Stuart Gordon, a director at Gordon Transport Solutions, based between Stair and Drongan, explained the reason behind their NHS truck makeover.
He told The Post: “We’re a commercial vehicle repairer, based in Stair and we look after the local NHS vans and things like that.
“We also have an international transport side of the business and we transport refrigerated goods all over Europe.
“What we’ve done is a specific graphic on both sides of a trailer as a ‘ Thank You’ to the NHS.”
Ian Gordon, the CEO of Gordon Group Holdings said: “When I heard the seriousness of COVID- 19 and the impact it had on someone I had known all my days, it brought it home a bit more to me just how serious this virus was. On seeing the impact it had on him and how it was affecting all the NHS staff, we made an informed decision to show support to the NHS key staff of who without them, this pandemic would be worse.
“They are the real heroes in this, not the overpaid politicians. We have made this 44- tonne articulated combination and driver available 24/ 7/ 365 to the NHS for the collection of PPE throughout the UK and Europe or whatever it is required for with the NHS.”
The truck is fuelled for the jobs in hand by Oilfast, who are the firm’s sole supplier of fuels, AD Blu, fuel cards, vehicle tracking and lubricants.
Gareth Robertson, Head of Operations, at Oilfast said: “We are delighted to be associated with this cause and are fully supportive of the NHS Front line staff.
“When we heard that Gordon Transport deliver much needed PPE to our local hospitals free of charge we were mightily impressed. Their efforts have even inspired us to kickstart our “Nominate A Local Hero” campaign.” Another business partner, Milligan’s Coaches of Mauchline, are also supporting the team’s efforts to support the NHS and key staff.
