Talbot tight lipped on ‘ title u- turn’ as probe underway
Auchinleck chiefs are refusing to be drawn on claims that they stopped leagues being declared null and void.
Talbot are keeping their counsel in the wake of bombshell reports that their commercial director, Colin Chisholm, forced an eleventh hour rethink at the WRJFA.
Our sister site, Ayrshire Football News, broke the story on Sunday night that junior chiefs backtracked on an agreement to scrap the season.
Commercial boss Chisholm has since tendered his resignation from the SJFA West Region Management Committee, of which he was Acting President.
And an independent investigation seeking “full transparency” will now be held.
It follows the revelation that a decision to write off the campaign was reached at a West Region management meeting on April 14.
But Talbot were crowned Premiership champions a week later after a u- turn.
It followed concerns raised by Chisholm to West Region Secretary, John Fyfe.
Mr Chisholm argued that a failure to declare league winners could lead to problems nominating a side for next season’s senior Scottish Cup.
Management were urged to “revisit the subject” and were duly asked to destroy the April 14 minutes.
A decision was then made to settle leagues on a points per game average, with Talbot awarded the Premiership.
Mr Chisholm insisted he had represented the “best interests of the game not Auchinleck Talbot’s.”
But after a firestorm raged on social media, he took the decision to step down from the West Region Committee.
In announcing their probe, the committee stressed their “intention to bring the season to an amicable end in what was unprecedented times for all”.
They pledged the investigation would be “neutral and independent.”
When contacted by the Post, Talbot insisted they had no comment to make on the matter.
