Lockdown taxi party
It was supposed to be the 75th anniversary of the famous Glasgow taxi run to Troon.
Special plans were well advanced for the trip a week today ( Wednesday June 17).
Troon Community Council had been looking forward to the special anniversary when the shutters came down in March.
More than 300 kids from the city with additional support needs joined the brightly coloured 41 mile cabbie convoy.
Now the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund charity is staging a “Lockdown To Troon” party online.
All the colour and fun of the event will be shared on social media for one year only. They are asking taxi drivers, families, school staff, volunteers and Ayrshire Post readers to send their pictures, videos and memories of past outings, or messages of support, in advance to be shared on the day.
Drivers can also dress up themselves or their taxis for the day if they wish and fund treasurer Stephen Lalley said: “We have created this oneoff, fun event so everyone can get involved and help these young people forget about the disappointment of not going to Troon this year.
“Anyone wishing to join in the fun should use WeTransfer. com to email their pictures or videos to admin@ gtof. org. uk.
“These will be shared on the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund’s Facebook and Twitter pages on the day from 10am until 4pm.”
Locals can pick up the action by using the Twitter hashtag # LockdownToTroon.
In addition, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund have also announced they will host a party in each of the schools where children missed out going to Troon. These will take place when schools return.
