Two teens in court after violent attack on 16-year-old boy

Two teenage boys have appeared in court following an alleged murder bid against a 16-year-old boy in Prestwick.

The victim was allegedly attacked in the town’s Boydfield Gardens on Saturday night and was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury.

Police are treating the incident as attempted murder. Two 16 year-olds were arrested and charged following the incident.

They appeared on petition at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday but their

identities cannot be revealed because of legal reasons. The charges allege that they attempted to murder their victim.

Both accused made no plea or declaratio­n and were committed for further examinatio­n.

They were released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.

Police began their enquiries after a 16-year-old suffered serious injuries following an incident in the centre of Prestwick.

Officers closed off the town’s Boydfield Gardens after an attack on Saturday at 8.35pm.

The injured boy was taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment.

His condition was described as serious but stable.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Two males, both aged 16, have been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault in Boydfield Gardens, Prestwick, on Saturday.”

Following the incident the area was roped off to the public as a police investigat­ion got under way.

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, Area Commander at South Ayrshire, said his officers will step up their patrols in the Prestwick and vowed anyone causing antisocia behaviour will be dealt with robustly.

He said: “We will continue to conduct high visibility patrols in the Prestwick area to provide reassuranc­e to the community and I would remind parents, guardians and carers to talk to young people about the concerns of anti-social behaviour and the consequenc­es of getting involved in such activity.

“The l community can expect to see an enhanced police presence in Prestwick over the coming weeks.”
