All you need is love for 50 years
A pair of Beatles fans have been loved up for 50 years and celebrated the milestone during lockdown.
Sadly Helen and David McFedries, of Ayr, won’t get to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in the home town of their idols as originally planned.
Instead the pair toasted their 50th wedding anniversary amid a pandemic. The couple tied the knot on May 27, 1970 at The Darlington Church, Ayr, then on to Prestwick’s Parkstone Hotel for some twist and shout. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in the Isle of Man as David has family there.
Before they retired, Helen (nee Martin), 68, was a Deputy Unit Manager at South Lodge residential unit for the elderly in Ayr and David, 76, was the Store
Manager/ Purchaser at British Aerospace in Monkton.
The pair have two daughters, Julie and Alison, son-in-laws Alan and Carl and three grandchildren Elise, 17, Nyree, 15, and thirteenyear-old Murray.
Daughter Julie Leslie said:“They were supposed to have been going to Liverpool with the family to celebrate and do The Beatles experience as they are huge fans but that’s been unfortunately cancelled. They are going to keep the celebrations until after the lockdown.”
And the pair agree all you need is love and a little help from friends to keep the flame burning for 50 years.
Julie added:“They say the secret to a happy marriage is keeping their family close, going lots of holidays, enjoying their time together and also being members of Forehill Bowling Club!”
