25 YEARS

The parents of a nine-year-old girl knocked down by a taxi as she walked to school are calling for school crossing patrols in Northfield Avenue, Ayr.

And they believe the accident could have been avoided if parking was restricted.

Jemma Glatley suffered cuts and bruising as a result.

Her parents Paula (26) and Ian (25) fear a real tragedy will happen if the road remains as it is.

Mr Glatley said:“It is the only street kids have to cross on the way to Heathfield Primary that does not have a crossing patrol.”

Council tenants in Prestwick who are habitually in arrears with their rents will lose their tenancy.

This warning came from Mr Lewis Stewart, burgh chamberlain. He told the Housing Committee the list has been worsening and 218 of the burgh’s 1349 tenants were in arrears.

The total amount owed was £850- including one man who owed a“significant”amount.

The difficulty, said Mr Stewart, was that rents were now £11 and £12 a month, and“we will need to keep a tight grip on this.”
