Waste management team praised for work

-

Council bosses have thanked the Waste Management team who have worked tirelessly throughout lockdown, ensuring essential household waste and recycling collections could continue without issue.

South Ayrshire Council have said thanks to their diligent efforts, they were able to keep the full household collection service running throughout the pandemic- with the exception of garden waste for three weeks. Since March, 23 they have collected a staggering 1.8 million wheeled bins and food caddies; attended and cleared over 300 incidents of fly tipping and actioned over 80 complaints from the public, workers and business owners.

The team ensured dumps were ready to re-open following the green light from the Scottish Government. They extended site opening hours, added two temporary pop-up sites for general waste, and put robust traffic management plans in place to avoid queueing at and around the sites.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, the council’s environment spokesman, said:“I’m extremely proud of the team for going the extra mile to make a difference in our communities during this pandemic.”
