Raise a glass for heritage
Ayr Rotary Club are looking for individuals who can offer help - or financial support - towards the creation of an Ayrshire Heritage Museum on the site of the soon to be retired Ayr Grammar School.
Well, Bob Shields reporting for duty, sirs!
I think it’s a great idea – and a great site as well.
Continuing the use of the legendary school building for educational purposes only adds weight to an overwhelming case.
In last week’s letter, Ayr Rotary list many aspects of Ayrshire’s great heritage that should be recorded and remembered.
Mining, farming, and fishing alone would be enough to fill a museum. And I’m told Carnegie Library is awash with historical artefacts that could all use a good home. Ayrshire has a great tale to tell and the Grammar School is the ideal location for the storybook.
I’d be pleased to get involved. And the moment I don’t have to wear a mask and my customers don’t have to be a coffin-length apart – I’d be happy to stage a fundraiser.
