Millie takes sporting crown
Talented Troon gymnast Millie Redford was the main winner in this year’s South Ayrshire Sports Awards.
The annual event recognises sporting achievement and rewards the often unsung heroes.
It was a virtual ceremony this time round as the sporting community came together via laptops, phones and tablets to hear the results.
Millie was named ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ for her gymnastic achievements.
She represents Scotland and in 2019 became the Scottish bar champion.
Millie’s main ambition is to compete in the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
And the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ went to Waiyin Hatton. Waiyin is one of the founders of Ayrshire Sportsability, a charity established to promote, provide and encourage sporting opportunities for those with a disability in Ayrshire.
The success of the charity over the past 20 years is down to Waiyin’s drive and passion.
Inspirational Ethan Rankin scooped an ‘Outstanding Young People Award.’ At only four years old, Ethan decided to cycle 100 miles for the NHS, only a week after taking his stabilisers off, he raised a fantastic £5,849.
Councillor Siobhian Brown, Economy and Culture Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “Congratulations to all the winners, and everyone involved in sport across South Ayrshire. I am sure 2021 will bring even more success.”

Meanwhile, there’s also been recognition for Jack Dunbie, a Primary 5 pupil at Crosshill Primary.
He was awarded a certificate of merit from SAC Active Schools Coordinator Ryan Douglas as part of the Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Jack was nominated by one of his teachers, Mrs Rebecca Jamieson, after sharing his news of training and competing on Mini Motorbikes. She said: “Jack is truly dedicated to his sport and commits a lot of time to checking the safety of his bikes and training.
He regularly travels 130 miles from his house to do this. The school are very proud of Jack and all that he has achieved and wanted to celebrate his achievements.”
