Gaiety help the isolated
The Gaiety Theatre have been helping the most vulnerable and isolated in our community.
They have helped 16 organisations by coordinating a successful approach to the Scottish Government’s Supporting Communities Fund.
Hansel Foundation has been tackling isolation by providing support services remotely through the purchase of portals. Enable Ayr, Dementia Friendly Prestwick and Vics in the Community are providing distanced services and extra technical support to those who need it.
Tuskure Hub have been creating PPE face shields and ear protectors for charitable organisations, along with Biosphere Bikes who are providing free servicing and bike hire to key workers. Projects by Ayrshire Women’s Hub and Ayr United Football Academy have been reaching out to vulnerable and isolated people . The CEIS Ayrshire Ahead South Ayrshire Project have been providing support for young people living in vulnerable households by giving them internet access .
The Gaiety’s Kerry Porter said:“We have used this time to create an online ‘Gaiety Lockdown Channel’which is not only showcasing creative content, but hosting a vast programme of inclusive events with some of the UK’s leading artists for local people to be involved in.
“Many have been providing vital food support like the community shop supported by Kirkmichael Village Renaissance, volunteers from Muirhead Tenants and Residents Association, South Ayrshire Women’s Aid, Barr Stores Steering Group and Castlehill Church with 10:10 Trust.”
