Customers unite to claw back lost cash

Group formed in wake of kitchen firm collapse

- PAUL BEHAN

Furious customers of the collapsed Ayr firm Digital Kitchens and Bedrooms have set-up a group on social media in a bid to take a ‘co-ordinated approach’ in their attempts to claw back cash.

At least 26 people have already joined the group which is called ‘Shame on Digital,’ as the fallout from the firm’s demise rumbles on for a third week.

Last week we told how the GMB Union demanded that the firm’s financial dealings were investigated by the UK Treasury Department.

And the controversy over the scores of customers left out of pocket, and the prospect of as many as 15 members of staff losing their jobs, even prompted Ayr MP Allan Dorans to get involved.

Now the Facebook group hope that by teaming up in numbers, they can take their fight for cash straight to the Administrators, who are understood to be Grainger Corporate Rescue & Recovery.

They were poised to move in as Administrators this week, pending the completion of paperwork.

One of the group admins said: “We were asked by a few to start a group for all those affected by Digital Kitchens. The purpose of this group is to give us all a platform to share our knowledge of what is happening.

“We paid a deposit for four wardrobes to be built on January 20. After four no-shows for them to be fitted, I requested a refund.

“This was at the beginning of March, so a couple of weeks before lockdown.

“Despite numerous voicemails, emails and posts on DK’s Facebook page, there was no response.”

She added: “I know we’re all affected in various ways, whether you’re staff, customers who’ve paid deposits or customers who’ve paid in full with either no products, or partial works done.

“It’s a horrible position to be in and I for one am very angry.”

We told recently how several customers shelled out thousands of pounds for work which wasn’t completed by the firm, based in Mosshill Industrial Estate.

But last week we revealed that the true scale of the financial collapse - and the ramifications of it - were much wider.

John Martin, the owner at Digital Kitchens and Bedrooms, has failed to respond to requests for a comment in the wake of the collapse.

Up to 15 staff face the axe. One insider said: “We were due four weeks wages today (Friday), they paid us two weeks. This is what they do, you never get full wages.

“I also received a call from MP Allan Dorans and he’s also looking into this.

“We just can’t let this die away, we need action and for these people to pay for their actions.”
