Yobs’ reign of terror on No2

Prestwick Academy pupils hurl abuse at mum and baby

- RYAN CARROLL

A pensioner, a young mum, and a one- year- old baby were among the victims of a vile spate of abuse from a group of schoolboys.

The Prestwick Academy pupils were heading home when they began tormenting an elderly lady on the number 2 bus.

The youths started throwing bits of paper and shouting abuse at the pensioner in her 60s, before their attention turned to a young mum and her baby.

Prestwick mum- of- two Dawn Jackson, 27, stepped in when the boys refused to leave the old lady alone – but that just made things worse.

Dawn told the Post: “Their parents should be ashamed.

“I was travelling back from the shops with my baby Effie when the group came on and quickly started scrunching up bits of paper and throwing them at the pensioner.

“They hit her on the head about five times before I jumped up and said ‘ can you stop that’.

“But then they just started doing it more and the lady left the bus crying before they started shouting abuse at me and three other old ladies on the bus.

“They said my baby was ugly and was a ‘ munter’ – a baby!

“And when I begged them to leave us alone they asked me to hit them, and said ‘ is it cos I’m ginger?’

“The bus driver said there was nothing they could do as they were under 16 and said it’s always like this.

“It’s a disgrace, these boys should be punished.

“I want to find out who their parents are.” The boys, thought to be aged between 13 to 15, got on the number 2 bus at Alexandra Avenue after classes had finished at around 3.10pm.

Police have now launched a probe and said they will scour CCTV to identify the youths.

It’s sparked calls for action from the school after Dawn’s Facebook post explaining her ordeal was shared over 1,500 times.

Several Prestwick locals commented of similar experiences on both the number 2 and 6 – and many say they now avoid the route alltogether.

Dawn added: “Apparently this kind of thing has been happening all the time.

“I found out who a few of the boys are and police said they didn’t turn up to school the next day.

“One of the comments from a man said he was getting on as I got off and the last woman on the bus ended up getting juice squirted all over her.

“This has to stop.”

A Prestwick Academy spokesperson said: “We very much regret that young people have caused any distress.

“They have let down their parents and the school.

“The school and the campus police officer are working closely with the bus company to address the issues and ensure people can travel safely and not be disturbed by what is a very small minority of young people.”
