Concern over Ayr Beach water quality
A number of constituents have contacted me recently in connection with the quality of the bathing water at Ayr Beach.
Regrettably, the beach has failed water quality tests carried out regularly by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency ( SEPA) over the last four years. If it fails to reach the required standard next year it could become delisted as an accredited bathing beach.
The beach, as we all know, is a major attraction for Ayr and if it were to be delisted this would have a significant impact on the number of people visiting and on the local economy.
Last week I had a very positive and productive Zoom meeting with Senior Management of SEPA and Scottish Water and I am very much reassured that plans and actions which are being put in place by them will ensure that the beach reaches the required standard before next year.
It will be difficult, but following my recent conversation, I have every confidence that it is achievable.
Another matter of concern from constituents is the recent significant increase in the number of scam emails and telephone calls being received by people in this area.
These can appear to be from legitimate organisations including Amazon, eBay, HMRC, TV Licensing or banks.
In one telephone scam they are able to disguise their phone number so that it appears on your mobile screen as the genuine number of your bank. Please do not in any circumstances provide them with details of passwords or account details.
As always, as a resident of my Ayr, Carrick, and Cumnock constituency, please do not hesitate to contact me as your Member of the Westminster Parliament if there are any issues with which I may be able to help.
