Mega school unveiled
A new mega school in Maybole will boast a rooftop playground, swimming pool and forest area.
Ambitious plans for the £ 46million campus, set to replace crumbling Carrick Academy, three primaries and a nursery, were unveiled this week.
The school, if approved, will also have its own leisure centre open to the public.
South Ayrshire Council has applied for planning permission to erect the school for 1,370 children.
A hard games court, covered classroom, amphitheatre and a grass kickabout area are among other plans.

The mega Maybole campus is to replace crumbling Carrick Academy, three primaries and a nursery.
Designs show the school would have its own leisure centre open to the public boasting a pool, cafe, wet changing village and a gym.
The nursery’s rooftop would also double as a playground and a 17.8 metre wind turbine could generate power at the Kirkoswald Road address.

The plan is for Cairn and Gardenrose primaries to merge at the campus.
St Cuthbert’s Primary will also have a new base on the site.
Planning documents reveal the layout of the huge campus.
Instead of doors, primary classrooms will have wall openings.
And there would be “multi- use rooms” for drama, music, art and science.
Secondary pupils would make their way to classrooms via balconies, bridges and corridors according to planning documents.
And all Carrick Academy classrooms would have locked doors and glazed screens facing out on to corridors.
Construction work is due to start next year with a planned opening in 2023.
The kitchen would be located between the secondary and primaries – with a separate servery for each.
Outside there would be plenty to keep high school pupils busy with a hard games court, covered classroom, table tennis, amphitheatre and a grass kick about area.
The primary children would have their own forest school, mud kitchen, garden to grow crops and a slide on a slope in their playground.
There would be a full size allweather rugby pitch as well as a grass pitch.
Funding for the school is coming from South Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Government.
A design and access statement said: “The project developed as the result of the need to modernise the existing teaching facilities for all existing schools in Maybole in order to improve the school estate.
It added: “The new Maybole Community Campus will have a clear philosophy at its heart.
“The aim of this project is to bring early years, primary and secondary schools plus community facilities together in one building.”
A consultation has taken place on the proposals.
Firms BDP Architecture and Landscape and Morgan Sindall have worked with the council to develop the concepts.
Building company Morgan Sindall will carry out the construction job.
No decision has been made on the planning application yet.
