Bollywood stars jet in for airport filming gig

- RYAN CARROLL

Bo l l ywo o d s t a r s d e s ce n d e d o n t o Prestwick Airport last week as the cameras rolled on the runway.

Actors were spotted both inside the terminal and on the tarmac as they filmed blockbuster Bell Bottom – the much anticipated 80’ s set thriller starring Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar.

And aviation fans turned up to see a vintage Indian Airlines aircraft – a company that ceased operation back in 2011.

The Airbus plane is actually part of a British charter airline’s fleet, and has been given an Indian livery for the movie as part of what has been described as a huge scene involving a plane hijacking.

To save sparking any panic, airport bosses had earlier confirmed filming involving ‘ replica weapons’ would be taking place on the runway.

And photos show actors dressed as police officers next to vintage police cars and soldiers in combat gear holding replica pistols and what look like AK- 47s.

One star is spotted manning a huge machine gun mounted on top of a desert jeep in a cordoned off area of the tarmac.

Film crews have also been spotted shooting scenes for the high- end espionage flick from a raised position outside the main terminal and above the plane itself.

After that the camera crews descended on Irvine beach.

The cast headed to the shore to film a music scene and a source said: “The sun was

shining and the cast managed to get out of the airport where they had been stuck in a few days. It was great to get out to a beach

location which was refreshing.”

Also starring Vaani Kappor, Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta, Bell Bottom is set to release on April 2, 2021.
