Chic talks represent council’s best hotel hope

-

“To continue discussions with developers and owners of Ayr Station Hotel to investigate the purchase or the lease of the premises”.

Yes – promising words indeed. Is this the very latest from South Ayrshire Council?

Er . . no. It’s a bit older than that. Can you remember as far back as January 1? Well, while you were wishing everyone a Happy New Year – the quote above was already a THOUSAND days old!

It’s dated April 2017 and comes from the SNP’s local election manifesto.

And it’s signed by every current ruling SNP councillor with a promise to “unreservedly commit to the manifesto pledges”.

At this rate, they might at well use the same “commitment” as part of their 2022 election manifesto!

Three and a half years later – their “commitment” has got as far as a meaningless public “survey” on a

building they don’t even own!

We now learn that the Malaysian property owners - and a potential new investor – are knocking on South Ayrshire Council’s door with concrete proposals to move forward.

They have asked former local MSP Chic Brodie to represent their interests at initial discussions.

But judging by SAC’s “welcome” – they might as well have asked comedian Chic Murray.

And he’s been dead for 15 years! Chic isn’t SAC’s favourite person – but he is THE person they need to talk to. Council leader Peter Henderson’s signature is on the 2017 manifesto. I suggest he “unreservedly commits” to sitting down with Chic Brodie.

And discusses the subject he promised to “continue discussing” over a thousand days ago!
