Following the rules is key to beating virus

- MEMBER OF THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT FOR AYR John Scott

After the summer months and a sense that, while far from normal, things were getting back on a more even keel, with shops and hospitality businesses reopening and trading again, the past few weeks have come as an unwelcome but necessary wake- up call.

The renewed restrictions that have been put in place are a reminder that we are far from the end of the current health crisis.

The fact is that infections are on the rise again, so we all need to continue to follow all the rules and public health guidance, if we are not to lose the advances we have achieved together.

One particular thing we can all do, which would help stop the spread of the Covid- 19 virus, is to download onto our mobile phones the new Scotland Protect app.

This free to use software alerts users if they have been in prolonged close contact with someone who has since tested positive for Covid- 19.

When someone tests positive for the virus they are contacted by a contact tracer.

The contact tracer will ask them if they are using the Scotland Protect app and if they are willing to use it to anonymously alert close contacts.

If they agree, they’ll be sent a unique code to their mobile phone which unlocks this function on the app.

The app on other users’ phones regularly checks this database to see if they have been in contact with an infected person.

I would urge as many local people as possible to download the app from https:// protect. scot/.

By signing up, we can all play a part in the fight against Covid- 19.

Although I am not able to hold face to face meetings at present, I can be contacted on 01292 286251 or at: john. scott. msp@ parliament. scot
