Disgusted at BBC move

-

I am disgusted by the BBC’s decision to stop showing the daily briefings on the coronavirus, and I am concerned about the impact on people living in Scotland.

The decision has been openly admitted to be political and it may have dire consequences for some people in South Ayrshire.

The demographic pattern in my local village means that many elderly people receive up to date information mainly from terrestrial TV, and not online websites. Speaking to people of all, or no, political colours they have all appreciated the daily briefings - clear, consistent and explaining reasons for very difficult decisions.

How can the BBC justify stopping these broadcasts at a moment when there is clear evidence that a second wave of the pandemic is beginning?

The most vulnerable are not going to access vital information easily.

Part of my lockdown survival kit has been to re- read some old classics. At present I have started George Orwell’s 1984.

The Ministry of Truth which dealt with propaganda had a slogan: IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

Is this really what the BBC believes, and is that what we should expect from a public broadcasting service? Perhaps

BBC really stands for BIG BROTHER CORPORATION, as one line in reply to my recent complaint really jarred:

‘ BBC News Channel will continue to broadcast parts of briefings live based on news value.’ Exactly which part of a briefing on a pandemic is not of news value!
